On its way to the top, our tripod with Sione has to face a long lasting storm. This is in Simone's words the situation: "A winter climb of a 8000 mt peak is a real challenge in the challenge. Cold, wind, lack of oxygen, technical difficulties, shocks and many other unexpected events make the life of a climber and of his equipment a real hell! No chance to work without gloves on surfaces that most of time are pure ice. Wednesday, February 13 2008 - 01:00 Simone explains the mission!
Shooting at high altitude is tough and Simone explains why, and why he chose Manfrotto. It involves temperatures down to -50 C°, winds up to 150 KM/h, storms and little light. Our commitment was to give him the lightest and most stable tripod we could make, so Simone could only be concerned about shooting and breathing, which is one of the great issues in high altitude. read

Thursday, January 24 2008 - 01:00 Something, in the end, happened.
Not stuck in skardu anymore, Simone is midway to Base Camp. We talked to him today and that's what he told us. "It's not really what we have been waiting for in Pakistan for almost a month, yet... better than nothing. Today, we flew up to Paju 3400 m, 60% of the way between Skardu and Base Camp in Broad Peak. Our Pilot wasn't confident about the weather, and preferred not to face the very strong wind blowing up there. Two little Ecureill choppers came as well today, which were actually able to reach 6000 m with no problems. Simone is training hard for this great endeavor! In the meantime, while we are waiting for the real footage, he's sending us some pictures of his stay in Skardu, Pakistan.
